History: Anakin Skywalker's Wikia
Presentation: Anakin’s personality can be summed up nicely in one word: passionate. He wears his emotions broadly for all to see, defiantly and proudly. Even at this young age – or especially at this young age. This manifests both in positive ways, and in many negative ways.
On the positive end of this spectrum Anakin is hard working, determined, and driven, and he will always fight for what he thinks is right (what is 'right', however, is highly subjective, depending on one's point of view). Ever since he was nine (almost ten) years old and taken from his mother on the planet Tatooine and placed into the care of Qui-Gon Jinn he has wanted to become a Jedi Knight. They are the self-proclaimed guardians of peace and justice (Anakin being more focused on the latter rather than the former) in the galaxy; and having experienced so much injustice prior to Master Jinn finding him, Anakin was particularly keen on joining a society dedicated to such virtues. Anakin doesn’t give up easily, even in the face of a challenge with seemingly insurmountable odds. One of his personal mottos is ‘There is always hope’, and he will do what he thinks is right. It is here his courage shines brightly, and it is for this reason the people of the Republic would later dub him ‘The Hero with no Fear’ – at 13 he’s not made much of a name for himself outside of his part in the Naboo Crisis and to the slaves held captive by Krayn.
Anakin has within him the capacity to be quite compassionate; when those he cares about and loves are suffering he can’t help but act in their defense. Who he ‘cares and loves’ can be defined broadly, even those as disconnected form him as innocent bystanders. He loathes not being able to prevent harm from happening to anyone. It is from this compassion that springs his ability to be so loyal, when he’s made up his mind of whom to be loyal to. It is also from this place within him that he feels that strong sense of betrayal when those he cares about let him down. Because he puts so much of himself into his relationships (against the Code of his Order, no less) when those he cares about let him down (real or simply perceived) he feels it as a tremendous loss.
He wants to love, and defiantly loves without compunction, often to his own detriment. He is attached to just about everyone in his life who shows him a modicum of kindness, and often doesn’t question their motivations behind those kind expressions. This want for affection and affirmation is not-so-subtly rooted in his upbringing. The Jedi, while wise and respectful of all living things, are, to put it frankly, terrible with emotions. Anakin was raised first by his mother who taught him love was a beautiful and good thing, and he learned early on it was something to be sought for and fostered. These lessons are still quite fresh in his mind and he is slow to let them go, despite how much he wants to be a Jedi. While the Order has done a great many good things in their time, they do not fulfill Anakin’s need for love. In this (and let’s face it, along with many other aspects of the Jedi) Anakin differs from his peers. However, he is starting to learn to takes great pains to hide certain depths of his attachments, as he would surely be expelled from the Order should they learn the true extent of them.
Due to his passionate nature Anakin does like a healthy competition from time to time, often taking his skills to the extreme (such as pod racing, something he hasn’t exactly given up since starting to train at the Temple – he often sneaks off at night to participating in illegal races held in the lower levels of the city planet).
Anakin has a complicated relationship with the concept of independence. The first part of his life has been marred by the experience of being a slave. The next stage of his life, though an argument could be made that it is better, it is still subject to the Master/subordinate dichotomy. He does not know what life or independence means without rank. Though he fights tooth and nail for every inch of liberation he has, he cannot help but always assess where he fits in the pecking order. He’ll show a certain kind of deference to that order, using proper titles and honorifics. But he won’t lie that he looks forward to the day when he is master of his own destiny.
However, whether this means he will obey those who out rank him is another thing altogether. Simply put, if he doesn’t feel like it he won’t. Some of the time ‘doesn’t feel like it’ means he feels obeying orders is simply wrong for the situation, that the right thing to do involves going against the Council or instructions from Obi-Wan. Some of the time ‘doesn’t feel like it’ means he’s being a petulant brat. He’s thirteen, after all.
Despite how his passions can translate into good actions, his negative qualities often hinder his good intentions.
He is entirely too reckless and gives little forethought to his actions or their consequences for himself or his loved ones. His hotheaded temper often leads him right into the thick of trouble (usually what one could call ‘aggressive negotiations’). His judgment can be clouded by his emotions, making it difficult for him to realize what he is doing before the completion of his actions.
This impetuousness is often intensified by his impatience. He’s been told he has the most Force potential of his age and he suffers from the Running Before One Can Walk syndrome. Due to the knowledge that he is quite powerful, he believes he can do all things before he’s mastered how to do them. And he is his harshest critic when he fails. Though, being thirteen, and not receiving any guidance of proper healthy emotional control, he does tend to take his frustrations out on the people and things around him. When he is angry he usually acts without thinking, lashing out at what he thinks is the root of the problem, whether he is correct or not.
His belief in bringing justice to those who do not have it is what initially drew him to the Jedi Order, and that ideal is certainly a commendable one; however, he is a terrible fit for such an ascetic life. He can practice self-denial for those he cares about, but the Order requires more than the renunciation of claim to physical possessions - the Code forbids the formation of attachments to even other living beings. Anakin has half internalized these teachings, but he cannot bring himself to fully embrace them. In refusing to do so, he walks a thin line. He believes he’s entitled to love, and to be loved, but if the Order found out he would be expelled.
Something must be stated about his rather famous temper. Like his capacity to love, his anger runs hot and is easily ignited. The most common triggers are injustices and stupidity, or what he perceives as injustices and stupidity. He does not like to be second guessed, if he’s made a decision, it was obviously done so based on the information available to him and should be readily apparent to everyone else. At least he thinks this should be obvious. He certainly thinks highly of his opinion and priorities. The other notable trigger is when people harm or threaten to harm those he cares about or him. He has lost control of his Force abilities in the past and has accidentally, while reacting out of fear for his life and anger, burned an attacker from the inside out with the Force.
Anakin is starting to lose his emotional compass. The Jedi Code, while emphasizing a divorce from all emotions, doesn’t serve well the fears and worries of a child who has only known oppression and separation his whole life. Repression is not a viable coping mechanism for Anakin and, let’s be real, it really shows. Never having his separation anxiety properly addressed, and his true attachments to others continually disparaged, Anakin has been left rudderless as to how to deal with loss and other complex emotions. This often results in him being a broody, vengeful, childish boy grasping desperately at anything that promises to keep what he cares about most within reach. When he gets too worked up emotionally, working on machines is really the only thing that helps him set his emotions back in order. And he’ll naturally seek out something to work on if he’s this upset.
Motivations: Anakin rarely has ulterior motivations. What you see is usually what you get. He has secrets (his emotional attachments to others, his worry about his Force potential) but he's really an open book, and doesn't really care all that much that others can tell just what he's feeling. He knows he has attachments, but is trying to figure out how to mesh that with his desire to be a Jedi, but he's not the 'plotting' and 'conniving' type.
His primary motivations are seeking justice for those worthy of it, helping others (particularly the under-privileged or systemically abused/marginalized), and loyalty to those he cares about (most particularly to Obi-Wan, Padmé, and his mother). He has morals which dictate that people come before ideologies or principles. If your ideologies and principles do not help the vast majority of people, then he doesn't want anything to do with them. And while everyone is a hypocrite to a certain extent with it comes to their personal morals, including Anakin from time to time, he's actually very good at practicing what he preaches - he will put his life and wellbeing on the line to help others. He loathes injustice and will speak out against it, even to his own detriment.
And let’s not forget he does seek adventure and to learn more about his abilities. He's thirteen and loves flying, jumping off of tall places, and generally running around. He likes the thrill and is proud of the skills he's already developed. He likes chances to exercise those skills and to see how far he can push himself. If he can so something thrilling and awesome (without hurting anyone, even if it is dangerous) why should he hold himself back?
Setting: He will NOT like the games - he will instantly see how unjust and abusive they are. He has already witnessed a lot of violent abuse (he's watched slave-owners beat and sometimes kill their slaves; he knows that the first slave-master he had, Gardulla the Hutt, liked to eat the offspring of her slaves; he's witnessed attempted genocide; been in two space battles, and he's already survived many horrible pod-racer crashes.) He will, however, think this is very wrong and that the Capitol people are very gross and wrong for taking pleasure in watching and forcing these games.
But as a thirteen year old, he will have a hard time articulating why this is wrong. He just knows that it is.

First Person Thread:
Anakin's breath was sharp and quick, his mind was reeling from what just happened to him. It was like all those crashes he'd had back on Tatooine, racing for Watto. But this time, he hadn't come out of it unscathed. He remembered the searing pain, like it was still radiating out of his stomach where he'd been wounded.
He hated it, he hated it and it filled him with the bitterest anger like bile turning in his gut. He'd felt that way when he'd faced and killed Krayn; he'd felt that way when he'd burned Ke Daiv from the inside out with the Force. He was so powerless, like when he was Watto's slave. No worse, this was worse than being Watto's slave on Tattoine.
When the recording device activated, Anakin started, head snapping to the source of the noise. He started at that device for a few blinks while his mind registered he was supposed to do something. If he could burn it with his thoughts he would, but that seemed to have been taken from him right now.
"You're awful. You're terrible people. You're worse than scum Hutt slavers!" Those were the first words he choked out. "You can't do this to people. It's wrong! The Jedi are going to find you and you'll be sorry. Then you'll know what justice is. No one will help you. You'll pay."
And though he knew it was wrong, hate was not the Jedi way, even when justified, he knew that, but he couldn't help himself. "I hate you. I hate all of you!"
He finished by slamming his closed fist down on the device, yelling. He knew he hadn't broken the device, but it felt good to release his negative energy on something that belong to these horrible people.
Prose:
Anakin stumbled into the room and turned to try and catch his escort's attention; he had so many questions, not least of which was 'were they all mad?' He'd just woken up on some strange cot in some strange room, clearly he'd been kidnapped. And the last he'd heard before the door of this room had opened was he was here to fight to the death.
And on top of it all, his connection to the Force was gone. That should have bred within him caution, but he was Anakin Skywalker, discretion wasn't in his skill set. Even as a thirteen year old.
To say this didn't sit well with him was an understatement.
The escort was gone, the door was closed.
Anakin quickly deduced he should go farther into the room. It wasn't all too different from a training room in the Temple, so at least its appearance wasn't off-putting. There was even an observation level at one end. How many times had Master Kenobi giving Anakin instruction to work on his own while he observed from above?
When the individuals in the raised observation room came into focus Anakin was surprised. He'd been expecting Trandoshans, they were famous for kidnapping people for these kinds of purposes - arena death matches, for hunting sports. But no, the observation room was full of humans. Anakin wasn't so naive to not be aware of human perpetuated cruelties. But he just couldn't think of any group of humans in his galaxy who did these of things.
He held onto the hope he could reason with them.
"Uh, hello?" he started. No one turned their attention to him, in fact, a few who had been looking his direction seemed to get bored and turned to their companions. Anakin wasn't deterred. "I think there's been a mistake. I- I don't know what games you guys play. But I don't think I'm supposed to be here."
No one responded. No one even looked like they cared.
"I'm just a kid," he tried to emphasis.
Nothing.
And oh, did that rake his anger.
"Hey!" He shouted, still to no avail. They were more interested in each other or their food than the fact they were tacitly condemning a child to death.
Now Anakin looked about the room, the weapons on display before him. His eyes lingered over each one. No lightsabers - his luck. But he knew how to use almost all of the ones on offer. He placed a hand on one, a spear with a rather wicked long blade for a point. And hefting it and then looked back up at the crowd. He just wanted to get their attention, he justified, he wasn't going to hurt anyone.
But before he drew back to throw it, a shimmering in the air between him and the crowd caught his eye. He froze and scrutinized that spot. The wavering air wasn't without form; there was the barest hint of a line shaping what appeared, as he looked at it longer, an octagonal, transparent plane.
A force-field. Not one Anakin had encountered before, but it was quite obviously a power-generated barrier between him and the group of adults. He searched for paneling on the wall to indicate where the energy was generated from, but he couldn’t find anything on his side that indicated where that was. And he couldn’t see much of the room beyond the field to guess where the controls were.
So they were protected.
That stoked the fires of Anakin's anger all the more. Because he couldn't get to them.
Fine. But he could still have a snit of a fit to get rid of this anger. Besides, he couldn't hurt them, his Master couldn't be too displeased with what he was about to do.
He then set about gathering an array of weapons; some were similar in make, but he didn’t seem to favor any particular kind. He simply picked the ones he knew best. When done, he had enough for one for each of the adults up above. He positioned himself in front of a table and set the weapons down.
He faced the table, took a moment to center his focus – he didn’t have access to the Force, but he had his training. He’d been a remarkably fast learning at the Temple. He could do this. Calmly, he exhaled. His Master’s voice, so familiar now from all their lessons, was ringing in his mind as he gripped the first weapon, telling him how to balance the handle, how to stand, how to move his arm. He turned and let the ax fly.
The ax spun cleanly threw the air and smacked against the force-field to the far left, its trajectory quite clearly aimed at the man sitting farthest left. Stunning, energetic ripples radiating brilliantly through the air around the center of the ax’s impact, pronouncing to the ax’s intended target that if the field had not been there, he would be sporting a new chest piece.
Anakin didn’t pause long to consider his accomplishment, instead he quickly turned back to grab another weapon to throw. Another, and another, and another. Like an exercise at the Temple, only his targets were actual people – people quite securely protected, but still people - intead of dummies or projections or droids.
Down the line his weapons hit, each one aimed for one of the Gamemakers. Without pausing between his throws longer than to grab another weapon the force-field was a continuous shimmering lake of gold ripples. And his aim wasn’t always exact, but close enough, and true often enough, that each Gamemaker would have understood and his message.
After his last weapon, a spear, hit the shield, Anakin stood there, jaw set, not winded, defiantly glaring down the Gamemakers staring back at him.
This was his promise he was going to get out of here, and he might just take a few of them out along the way.
What is your character scored: Score - 9 (this is his score without his abilities enhanced by the Force. He may only be 13, but his training and innate ingenuity and human talents set him above avarage.)
Powers/Abilities:
Strengths
» Greatest Force Potential anyone of his age has ever encountered. (Only his future son Luke has the same potential he does.)
» The Force lends him skills beyond human abilities in strength, endurance, durability, reflexes, and agility... (At 13 he’s still learning.)
» Without the Force, he still is very athletic and strong for his age, given he’s trained every day for the past 3 years, for hours each session.
» He’s been learning the Jedi form of hand to hand combat along with numerous weapons (even ‘improvised’ weapons) and their forms (he heavily favors Form V for lightsaber combat.) These skills are enhanced by the Force, but if he were cut off from the Force, he would still have the knowledge to perform all of them in theory (practice, again - 13 year old. But he has been deemed skilled enough to have his own fully-powered lightsaber by now. So he knows how to use it without accidentally cutting off his own body parts during practice. The same applies to other weapons – he knows how to use them, and he is more skilled with them than the average person.)
» Via the Force, all senses can be enhanced – sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
» He can telekinetically move things via the Force, and depending on his concentration and creativity, the size and power of the object matters not. But honestly, think of the 'concentration and creativity' of a 13 year old - and there you have Anakin's telekinetic abilities.
» He has an unending supply of energy and loves to stay active. (Obi-Wan didn't say he was always on the move for no reason.) This is only slightly tampered without the Force – he just has a lot of energy.
Mental:
» He receives both premonitions through the Force for immediate situations and visions of future events. He started recognizing those premonitions at a young age, it's what helped him survive pod-racing. And he was receiving visions of him becoming a Jedi Knight before he even met Qui-Gon.
» He is empathic, but mainly to other’s emotions and their ‘signature in the Force’; actual clear, succinct thoughts are hard to read, and usually require the other individual involved to be Force-sensitive or telepathic of some nature and concentration on his part.
» If he concentrates hard, he can do the Jedi Mind Trick.
» He's burned people from the inside out before - but that was a moment of extreme fear and anger, he would have to work at it to recreate the act. Or be very frightened/angry to achieve it again.
» He has amazing piloting skills. Even at a young age, he is already a 'good pilot'. His only failing in this area is mostly due to being unfamiliar with certain ship models. But once he's familiar with them, he's pretty good.
» He has a talent with all things mechanical/electronic. This is actually how he meditates. This talent is Force-granted, through the Force he can just ‘know’ what is wrong with an engine or machine, but he’s starting to augment his abilities with an extensive mathematical and mechanical/electrical engineering education from the Temple. He's quiet advanced in this area, especially for a 13 year old. He doesn't know everything, but he is from an advanced society and has already at this age: 1) rebuilt a protocol droid, 2)rebuilt numerous pod-racers, 3) designed and built Temple droids. If he’s emotionally distressed, he gravitates towards working on machine. He gets quite excited about engines and machines and droids. However, when confronted with a new bit of mechanical/electronic technology, because his focus and concentration aren't what they will be as an adult, he would need to time to figure it out - but, oh, what a fun puzzle it would be.
» He can create Force-Bonds - however, at the moment this is done subconsciously and inadvertently.
» He has a strong desire to learn... well about the things he's interested in. So, martial arts, flying, physical activities, about the Force and what you can do with it.
» He speaks, reads, and writes in three languages: Basic (SW equivelant to English), Huttese, and Dug.
Emotional:
» He loves openly and freely (example - everyone he's met that he considers a good person: His mother, Padmé, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and yes, Palpatine- hey, he doesn't know he's a bad man yet!)
» He's quite loyal to people, he finds it's easy to put their needs above his own. He doesn't give up on them easily.
» He’s overly compassionate towards everyone in need
» And far, far too generous with his time, talents, and possessions. Even when he was a boy on Tatooine, he sought out ways to help the other slaves around him.
» He wants to help everyone in need, and he certainly tries
» He cares far too much about people.
» He strives to do what he perceives as the right thing to do.
» Though he has a lot of emotions (and problems stemming from those emotions) he has a notable lack of fear regarding his person - He doesn't fear getting hurt, no matter how severe, and he does not fear his own death.
» He rarely gets attached to objects (people on the other hand… see below). He is not at all materialistic. For him, objects don’t compare in value to life. Because of this he's constantly losing his lightsaber.
Weaknesses
» Though he has the greatest Force Potential of anyone of his time, he is not fully trained to use this power. He does not have the finesse and control his older counterparts have. Though they might not be as strong as he is in the Force, they are certainly much more skilled than he is. He's had 3 years of training in the Jedi martial arts, but he is not so disciplined.
» He is still human, and a boy at that. A lightsaber to the chest will be just as fatal to him as it would be to the next guy. And though he'd put up a fight, he could be over powered by someone more disciplined/skilled than he is.
» And without the Force, he's still a kid! He would still have his 3 years of training - but that's not much of a match compared to an adult with the same or more training.
» He's not tall - he's 13, he hasn't hit that growth spurt that will get him to his adult height.
» Relying on the Force to supplement bodily needs – sleep, rest, eating, healing – will exact a high price from him later (longer healing Force-trances, for example). And he's, again, not as practiced at using these Force techniques
» He has terrible penmanship, worse than the average 13 year old - he's from a world where most everything is done via data-pads. He hardly thinks it's worth his while to learn beautiful handwriting.
Mental:
» He leaps first, and thinks later (like, during the fall on the way down).
» The proscribed forms of Meditation of the Jedi Order of his time do NOT work for him – they leave him feeling cold and empty and alone or feeling like he's burning up in a sun (not calm, warm, and comforted like all the Jedi instructors tell him it should feel like).
» He gives no fucks about anything artistic (unless it’s the design of a spaceship) – but performance arts, fine arts, even fashion, he just doesn’t care about those.
» He’s terrible with diplomacy – he has little to no patience and even less for people in authority who are abusing the rights of the people they are meant to serve and protect.
» He is easily distracted by trying to do all the things – he tends to think he’s the only one that can get the job done right, so he tries to do all the jobs, all at once.
» He doesn’t care about history, politics, or literature – he secretly feels having to study any of those subjects is torture. Ugh, so boring. Palpatine chided him a few times for his lack of interest or aptitude with politics.
» Anakin struggles with accepting abstract ideals, and he has a hard time with abstract concepts in general. At one point Obi-Wan described it as thus: Abstractions like peace don’t mean much to him. He’s loyal to people, not principles. He believes that helping others achieves peace and justice, whereas the Jedi Order of his time believed creating Peace and Balance helps others. In the end, he will choose helping people over promoting peace every time.
» He struggles with losing his lightsabers or keeping it in one piece. It's just a tool, you can make another one, gosh.
Emotional:
» His emotional control is not at all developed. He tries, and tries, and tries – but he’s always been blessed with an overabundance of emotions. He always feels everything intensely, and can’t seem to excise his emotions like the Jedi of his time are taught to do.
» He hates just as much as he loves.
» He is very impatient – he wants to do things now, not later or at a more moderate pace.
» He has a difficult time accepting the death (or prospective death) of those he cares about. The fear of them dying is rather crippling for him.
» He tends to trust without caution - especially those who are overtly kind to him even when he shouldn't (Like Palpatine).
» When he feels betrayed, he does not forgive easily (if at all).
» He knows using the Dark Side is wrong, and he's constantly fighting against the urge to use it. But it's a never-ceasing temptation.
» Ever since the Council first rejected him, telling him his emotions made him dangerous, he has worried this was true. It has bred a certain kind of self-doubt in him that he works hard to compensate for.
